Physical Resources Mission Statement

Physical Resources builds, operates and maintains the physical assets of the University and provides quality customer-oriented services that support the needs of the University’s community.

Purpose

To summarize the responsibilities the University has assigned to the Physical Resources Directorate and outline the services the Directorate provides for the University. 

Scope

The main campus.

Responsibilities

The Physical Resources Directorate was established to provide planning, design, construction, sustainable transportation and parking services, maintenance and operations, facility support and sustainability services, for the University community. The Vice-President, Finance, Administration and Risk has delegated the responsibility for the provision of these services to the Associate Vice-President, Physical Resources:

  • Meeting the University’s requirements in planning, design, construction, sustainable transportation and parking services, maintenance, repairs, facility support and sustainability services, and utilities supply, generation and distribution for the physical facilities as per University of Guelph standards and in the most cost effective means practical.
  • Provision of cost effective custodial, grounds, vehicle maintenance and limited materials handling services.
  • Long range planning in all aspects of the physical plant including capital project estimating and forecasting.
  • Planning, development and implementation of the Campus Master Plan.
  • Capital renewal.
  • Space planning.
  • Such other related services within the general capability of the Directorate as required.

Not withstanding the above, the Director, Student Housing Services (SHS) will be responsible to the Vice-President, Finance, Administration and Risk (and/or the Associate Vice-President Student Affairs) for the following services at the student residence facilities at 252 Stone Road West, 78 College Avenue West and the East Village Townhouse Complex:

  • Meeting the University’s requirements in maintenance, repairs, facility support services, and utilities distribution for the three physical facilities listed above in the most cost effective means practical.
  • Providing cost effective custodial, grounds (excluding waste removal) and general maintenance services (excluding locksmith services).
  • Ensuring planning, design and construction services are contracted through the Physical Resources Design, Engineering and Construction Department.
  • Providing such other related services within the general capability of the Directorate as required.
