Materials Handling
The Role of Material Handling
Perform material handling (moving) services for departments and individuals within departments requiring the relocation or permanent removal of personal effects, equipment, and large objects.
Material Handling will:
- Perform, on request, the removal of large waste which includes: Computers, building furniture, appliances, desks, chairs, and doors, dropping off for recycling where possible
- Perform, on request, pickups and emptying of large recycling bins from campus buildings.
- Relocate, uncrate and/or setup new scientific equipment
- Provide forklift service to load and unload goods from delivery vehicles
Special Event Support Services
- Provide and/or rent materials and equipment such as tables, chairs, podiums, tarps, staging, etc. for events as required for special events such as convocation, the President’s Breakfast, Alumni Weekend, College Royal, Frosh Week, exam setups, etc.
- Perform moves of musical equipment, boxes and archives, to on and off-campus locations as necessary
In select cases, Material Handling may not have the capacity to perform moves on equipment of extremely large size and/or weight. In these cases, maintenance will be performed by outside contractors, as managed by Material Handling, often in conjunction with Design, Engineering and Construction.
