Furniture Swap
The "swap" programs are more of a combination of freestore and donation programs. The motto "take what you need, leave what you can" encourages staff, students and faculty alike to recycle their no-longer-needed goods within the community without the need for any immediate "swap" or exchange to take place.
Giving Stuff
Departments, organizations and students are welcome to donate usable items they no longer need, and pick ups can be arranged for on-campus locations. Furniture is taken to a storage location on the campus grounds, and pick ups may be limited by storage space availability.
Getting Stuff
Call the Sustainability office to see what we have in stock, and we can arrange to meet you at the storage location. You are responsible for providing your own transportation for the items; we cannot provide this service. Please make furniture pick up appointments at least 2 days in advance. We also offer some after-hours availability.
Move Out Madness
Move Out Madness is a collaborative program run at the end of every academic year to help students moving out deal with their surplus stuff in a responsible way. The different elements of the program incorporate an on-campus small item and clothing stuff swap, clothing and food donations to the local food banks, and a free large-item pick up for off-campus students. Furniture from Move Out Madness is added to the Furniture Swap inventory and given away on request or at events. For details on the year-end program, email moveout@uoguelph.ca or visit the Move Out Madness website.
