Green Volunteering

Any volunteering can be green if you incorporate green principles and practices. Ways of reducing our environmental impact include starting a recycling program; encouraging carpooling; cycling and facilitating community reuse/sharing of resources.

There are many organizations on campus which work closely with environmental issues to get involved with.

Sustainability Office

One of the main ways to get involved with the Sustainability Office is through the Enviro Rep program, but there are other ways. These involve participating in composting outreach to the East Village Townhouses or helping distribute recycling containers and sorting guides. Contact the appropriate co-ordinator on the About Us page if you want to get involved!

GSEC - Guelph Students for Environmental Change

GSEC is a group of University of Guelph students that runs awareness and advocacy campaigns for a variety of different issues. The club is divided into working groups, which focus on concerns such as energy, waste awareness, and litter clean-ups. This CSA-accredited club is located on the 2nd floor of the UC, and can be contacted by emailing gsec@uoguelph.ca.

CSA Foodbank - Stuff Swap

In addition to helping out the hungry, the CSA Foodbank offers a free clothing and household goods "swap" centre that's open year-round. Volunteers are always needed to sort and organize donations.

OPIRG - Ontario Public Interest Research Group

OPIRG-Guelph offers a resource centre, and is also host to various working groups addressing a variety of environmental and social justice issues. OPIRG offers training in areas like facilitation and the consensus process, and in other programs, like research-for-credit courses. OPIRG is located at 1 Trent Lane, behind Creelman Hall, or by calling 52129.
